John K. Murdoch letter

This collection consists of a letter to John K. Murdoch from his parents and sister in Ithaca, New York. The letter discusses the health and activities of family and friends; civic affairs, including an election in which a candidate purchased votes for two dollars; and the return of the bodies of dead soldiers. Murdoch’s sister, Mary, tells a story about the husband of an acquaintance stealing jewelry from a dead Confederate soldier in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

John Keely Civil War letter and scrapbook

This collection contains a letter from Captain John Keely to John Ryan of Atlanta about the health of Captain Keely and news of friends. The collection also contains a scrapbook of newspaper articles about Keely and a diary he wrote while serving in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.

This collection contains one set of landscape drawings (one original drawing and two blueprint copies) of the formal garden for the Cason J. Callaway Estate in LaGrange, Georgia. The estate includes a Neel Reid designed home and is located adjacent to the Hills & Dales Estate. Of special interest, Hoffman's landscape plan includes 240 'Clara Butt' tulips, an heirloom tulip variety.

John Littleton Jones graduation essay

This collection contains a handwritten and a typed version of an essay written by John Littleton Jones for his graduation from a public high school in Newnan, Georgia, in 1895. In the essay, John discusses his hopes and fears for the twentieth century and contemplates the future applications of science, technology, and religion. He also predicts a prosperous future for the southeastern United States in which it is destined to become an industrial and commercial hub.

John Malachi Bowden Civil War memoirs

John S. Holland Civil War letter

Scope and Content

This collection consists of John S. Holland's letter to Dr. William Farell. In it, Holland writes about the Army of Tennessee's march to Nashville, Tennessee, and subsequent delay outside the city. He describes the Federal attack on their position on December 15, 1864, and the cause of the rout on the next day. He also writes about retiring to winter quarters.
