The letters track the trajectory of their relationship, beginning with their courtship and ending with their ambiguous reconciliation years later. Mills primarily wrote about his travels across California and his love for Darsey, but he also commented on how political hostility affected romantic relationships within gay and lesbian couples.

These documents include Apollo Room travel brochures; an issue of House and Garden; and records documenting Stevens’s donations to Jerusalem House, a non-profit that housed low-income individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
